History of Cholpon-Ata
First of all....
The name of Cholpon-Ata means "father of CHOLPON(venus)". One of the most popular legends says that the salt taste of Issyk-kul is his tears when he lost his beautiful daughter.
You can ask about this legend to local people when you come to Cholpon-Ata. They are willing to tell you.
From Ancient time
At the Petrogliphs Museum, there are several petroglyphs which are from bronze age (middle 2nd millennium B.C.-8th century B.C.) to Saka-Usun period(8th century B.C.-5th centry A.D.) This fact shows that History of cholpon-Ata started from more than 4000years ago. Connected to the development of the Great Silk Road, many caravans stopped over Cholpon-Ata and it developed untill the time of the soviet era.
Soviet era
The first immigrants from Russia setteled in Cholpon-Ata in 1916 and there were only 8 houses. In 1926, they made stud farm and it became bigger industory in Cholpon-Ata. The famous directer of stud farm, Leonid L.Rapoport, made a big contribution for development and the avenew, which is from Cholpon-Ata to stud farm is named after him.
In 1938, sanatorium for Children established in Cholpon-Ata and many children came to participate the summer chirdrens' health improving camp. Because of the good weather and rich mineral warter, not only children but also many people started to come Cholpon-Ata to take medical treatment and enjoy their vacations.
In 1975, Cholpon-Ata became "City" and many tourist from all over the Soviet Union visited here. Most of the public facilities were made in this era and still using.
After Soviet era....
After the collapse of Soviet Union, Cholpon-Ata sufferded from serious economic crisis and political disorder. Even in such bad situation, Cholpon-Ata overcomed its difficulties faster than any other places because of its beautiful nature and fruitful land. In 2005, religious complex & Kyrgyz culture center "Ruf-Ordo" opend and Cholpon-Ata became the Cultural & Historical resort place.
In 2014, The World Nomad games(Nomad olympics) was held in Hipporodormand and not only Turkic people but also people from all over the world get to know Cholpon-Ata. We will hold nomadic game in 2016 again!
