ABOUT OUR CITY
Welcome to Cholpon-Ata.
Cholpon-Ata is located on the northshore of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. It is the adminstration center of Issyk-Kul region and 240km far from Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan. Population is about 11,000 and main industry is TOURISM.
Cholpon-Ata is well-known as a summer resort. There are several good beaches and accomondations, which provide good services with reasonable price. Many tourists from former Soviet Union countries come for holidays and have medical treatment in sanatorium, even in winter. Cholpon-Ata has great nature and history. North part of the city is surrounded by the beautiful mountains and at the foot of them, there are petroglyphs with rocks, which are written more than 4000years ago.

Cholpon-Ata is the administrative center of the Issyk-Kul region and the third largest city in the Issyk-Kul state. The west side of the city is close to Kara-oi village and the east side of the city is close to the Bosteri village.It is situated on the foreshore of Lake Issyk-Kul, in the foothills of Kungey Ala-Too range. As this favorable environment, citizens and tourists enjoy the comfortable climate and rich harvest of grains,fruits and vegetables.
Number of Tourist is 359,685 in 2014 and this is the biggest number that we have ever had.
Culture center and Library
We have Culture center and library (мамликет уй and китепкана).
The library is abailable but culture center is under constraction now.Though it is cloosed, you can enjoy kyrgyz traditional music and clothes as free of charge when they have events.
If you are long-stay vacationer, you can borrow the book from City library next to the Museum. They have 35000 Russian and Kyrgyz langage books,and you can borrow free of charge. Give your passport or deposit(about 500com) first and you can et them when you reture the book. Just in case, as a foreign tourist, we recommend to give deposit.

Social welfare
Cholpon-Ata has only 11000 citizens, so that city hall know the all families who need to help and also we can take care of the elderly person who live alone in Cholpon-Ata.For them, we give some money or products and social workers go and see them regularly.
Cityhall hold many events every seasons, such as New year, nevroos( Kyrgyzstan's new year) and Victory day of WW2.
In 2015, about 30 events were held and finished succesfully.
At those events, we invite elderly persons or someone who did great jobs for Kyrgyzstan to the restraunt and give some praise. We are keep on doing our effort to make good social whelfare for this city!
Educations
There are two schools in Cholpon-Ata, Kirov school and Osmonov school.
About 2,300 students aged from 6 to 17 are studing and about 100 teachers are working.Students can choose learning language(Kyrgyz language or Russian) though most of the students are bilingual.
Cholpon-Ata has three kindergartens. Two is public and the other is private, which is ran by NGO.
Due to the rising the number of children, we have been constructing fourth kindergarten since 2013. About 100 children can take a early child hood education and citizens are waiting for the opening.
Art and Music school
Our education is putting a great deal of effort into the Art and Music. Osmonov art school has about 30 students from all over the Issyk-Kul states and they are living in one domitory to devote themselves to their art study. Their works are highly regarded in not only Kyrgyzstan but also other central asian coutries.
Music and dance are indicpensable elements in Kyrgyzstan.Students of Music school entertain the audience at the city's events. Music school teaches many kinds of musics and dances include Kyrgyz traditonal instullement, such as Komuz(комуз). Some of students take part in the musical contest held abroad.
Sports
Wrestling is popular sport in Kyrgyzstan and we have boys wrestling class in Osmonov school. Other sports, such as Taekwondo, Judo, football is popular among our children. We consrtaucted football and volleyball court in Osmonov school supported by ARIS in 2011, also plan to construct it in Kirov school in 2016.
